The Bitterfeld Campaign
Designed by Mark Walker, the Bitterfeld Campaign is comprised of five scenarios with a running storyline. The campaign focuses on a group of Americans led by Lt. Jake Klaiber as he leads a delaying action against the Soviets as they advance toward a major clash with the British Army of the Rhine. Klaiber is quite a leader and enhances the morale of the M-1 platoon he commands, adds an extra fire die, and places all units in his hex in command. (Lt. Klaiber also appears as one of the American Armor Leaders in the upcoming Lock ‘n Load: Heroes of the Gap.)
The five Bitterfeld Campaign battles are fought in a variety of locales. Three are set on a new, and included, 8.5” x 11” map, one occurs on the Eisenbach Gap map and the other on the Blood and Bridges map. It’s a persistent campaign, meaning that the losses you suffer must be either made good with replacements and refit, or lost forever. Klaiber and his men don’t win scenarios, per se. They are rewarded refit points based on their performance. These points can be used to refit reduced platoons, buy additional forces and weapons such as M163 anti-aircraft vehicles, Dragons and Stingers.
Additionally, refit points can be used to buy skills, such as Augmented Firepower, Split Fire, Aid Station and Moral Boost, and others. These skills enhance a platoon’s capabilities. For example, the Split Fire skill allows Klaiber’s M-1 platoon to split its fire between two targets. The portable Aid Station allows an infantry platoon to ignore the first hit against it each turn. Augmented Firepower enables the owner to re-roll one of its attack die. And Moral Boost adds one to a platoon’s morale. There are seven skills in all, and only the best commanders will accumulate the refit points needed to buy them. And only with grit and determination can Klaiber and his men complete their mission. Join them, for this is a fight to the last man, and all hands are needed! |
